We’ve had a terrific week at HES, with students and teachers working extremely hard.

We are very fortunate to have an active PTO at HES for our students and school.  Today we kicked off our PTO Paragon fundraiser. We are hopeful this will be a successful fundraiser, for our PTO helps support us in many ways.  PTO helps pay for field trips, provides treats and rewards for our students, sponsors scholarships for former students, along with much, much more.  With the new HES, our PTO is working to raise money for enhancing our playground and to help provide chromebooks for our students. The Paragon sale will conclude and order forms will be due on September 3rd, with items delivered to school for pick up on Thursday, September 19th.  You can stop by school between 2:30-6:00 to pick up your items.  Money for Paragon is due on Tuesday, October 1st.  Thanks in advance for helping make this a successful fundraiser for our PTO.

This afternoon we had our very first after school dance, and by all accounts it was a huge success.  As one student said, “This was the best dance ever!!” Thanks to our PTO officers, members, and HES staff who helped make this a successful dance.  Thanks, too, to our parents who had to wait in line to get their children. It was quite a task reuniting 215 students with their families. We pulled it off, though, and all got picked up safely.

Next week, students will begin taking the Fall MAP test.  Fall MAP testing is our first benchmark of student academic progress, and we are always encouraged by their performance.  Soon we will be recognizing students who have scored in the 90th percentile or higher.  Additionally, all students reaching their goals receive classroom rewards/recognition.

Next Tuesday, August 20th, will be our first PTO meeting of the year.  The HES PTO does a great job supporting our staff and students, and we truly appreciate all who are involved with PTO.  This year our PTO will be active supporting current needs and programs, along with planning and raising funds to help with our technology needs and to enhance the new playground.  We are looking at benches/tables, shade devices, and other play equipment.  It’s an exciting time for our school and PTO!  The next PTO meeting will be on September 17th, at 6:00.

With the start of school we are required to begin practicing a variety of drills.  This week we began looking at fire and severe weather procedures and next week we will actually practice these drills.  We will also be having drills for earthquakes and lockdown/intruder.  Our students always do an excellent job with emergency drills, and I’m continually impressed at how they conduct themselves.  It is our genuine hope that we never face any type of emergency, but in the event we do, we strive to be as prepared as possible to react and to respond in such a manner that will keep all of our HES family safe.

It won’t be long before basketball and other extracurricular activities begin.  Tryouts for basketball, cheerleading, and archery will be here before we know it.  We are definitely looking forward to a successful fall sports season!

Students continue doing a great job showing their “PAWS”—Positive Thinking, Act Responsibly, Work Hard, Show Respect.

If we at HES can ever be of help, please do not hesitate to contact us at 270-756-3020 or email me at

Have a great weekend, and “Go Bearcats!”
