We’ve had a short but fantastic week we had at HES—made even better by having the opportunity to recognize and to remember our military heroes.

On Thursday, we celebrated Veterans Day.  It was a great privilege for our students, staff, and veterans to come together in our gymnasium for a fitting tribute to our former and current service members.  Our students helped with the program and did a great job. Anna Goff led us in the pledge, and Carson McCoy did an amazing job singing our national anthem. Barbara Gail and Lemuel Wright and Elizabeth, Ben, and Boaz Grimes assisted Ms. Mahmoud with the POW/MIA Table Ceremony.  Lastly, Mr. Rotramel, our music teacher, played the trumpet and brought the audience to tears with and “Taps.” We are so thankful for the freedoms we have and are appreciative of the dedication, service, and sacrifice of our former and current members of the armed forces.

This week kicked off our annual book fair. On Monday, November 12th, students in grades K-2 are scheduled to visit from 4:00-5:30. On Wednesday, November 14th, students in grades 3-5 are scheduled to visit the book fair from 4:00-5:30. Parents and students are invited to attend and check out the great deals at our book fair.

Congratulations to our boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, who went back into action last night.  We hosted the Custer Panthers, and three out of four of our Bearcat teams were able to come out victorious.  Last night was a very special evening, as we played the last games at our current facility. We had a great time, and were able to recognize two great HES leaders--Ints Kampars and Homer Gray.

We only have one more regular season game, and then we turn our attention to the tournament.  Good luck basketball Bearcats as you move closer to tournament time.

Mid-term grade reports will be sent home on Thursday, November 15th.  I would like to encourage everyone to review their child’s grades and let us know if you have any questions. We will be happy to talk with you and arrange meetings if needed. Education is a partnership between families and schools, with communication being critically important to ensuring all students maximize their learning potential.
